Biography

From the Miss Colorado USA website:

The spotlight shone brightly on Jessica Hartman on November 1st when she was crowned Miss Colorado USA 2010. But Jessica has never been a stranger to the spotlight. Since the age of three, Jessica has taken part in ice skating shows, figure skating competitions, dance recitals, plays, speaking contest, and much more. The numerous appearances in front of a large audience and a love for public speaking, as well as performing, will hopefully lead to Jessica’s dream to Jessica’s dream and life goal of becoming a news anchor for the Today Show. She believes it is important that the public be informed not only about political and economical issues, but also issues they can relate to on a daily basis.

Jessica, a 2009 Pueblo County High School graduate, was born and raised in Pueblo and is a fourth generation Coloradoan. Her rural roots have given her a strong work ethic, importance of community, a love for animals as well as her fellow man, and a deep desire to succeed. Jessica is currently seeking a degree in mass communications at Colorado State University-Pueblo, continuing to strive for her goal of becoming the next Katie Couric. She was named a 2009 Kane Scholar, a full-ride scholarship given to students who excel in academic record, are respected by their instructors, are highly involved in their community, and possess great communication skills. The Kane scholarship covers tuition and books for four years at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Jessica was also honored to receive several other scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Along with becoming a news anchor, Jessica hopes to inspire young women to be strong independent individuals by example and through motivational speaking. In high school, she held numerous leadership positions with the Future Farmers of America, including two terms as the chapter vice president and chairmen of various community service projects. Jessica has also been a strong member of 4-H, a national youth development program. This program holds a special spot in Jessica’s heart because it has allowed her to serve her community and country though her strong leadership and unselfish sharing of knowledge. She served on the 2008-2009 Colorado State 4-H Officer Team and was involved in the planning and execution of four state-wide leadership development conferences. This past year, Jessica received the honor of being awarded both the Pueblo County and the Colorado Outstanding 4-H Leadership/Citizenship Awards. Jessica also holds another love for the sport of figure skating. She started skating at the age of two and skated competitively representing the Pueblo Figure Skating Club and the Broadmoor Skating Club. Jessica just received her gold medal for senior level moves in the field and free skating, the highest level and honor earned by a figure skater.
