Name: Anna McKenzie

Anna McKenzie is a passionate, ambitious young woman who was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. Originally a Freelance Makeup Artist, she decided to go back to University in order to follow her dreams of giving back to her Aboriginal community.
She was inspired to participate in this year’s pageant from the Young Entrepreneur Symposium for Aboriginal youth, which took place this past November in Vancouver 2010.
Anna believes that by participating in Miss Universe Canada 2011, she can open doors for First Nations youth across Canada, and to inspire them to go beyond their limitations to achieve happiness and success. Anna is very proud of her Cree heritage and to be a member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation.
She is currently attending the University of Calgary in the A.S.A.P Program (Aboriginal Students Access Program), working towards her BA in Political Science, and eventually a degree in Law. She is also a member of the First Nations Student Association as the Financial Executive.
Anna is also the director of P.A.S.S (Peer Assistant to Student Service). In this role, she coordinates events for Aboriginal students at the University of Calgary to participate in to promote student enrolment and to connect students to support systems within the university.
Anna is also an N.A.P.I Ambassador (Native Ambassador Post-Secondary Initiative) where she facilitates motivational speeches to First Nations youth. In her speeches, she focuses on the effects of bullying and her experiences when she was younger. Lastly, she is a member of the Aboriginal Student Policy Standing Committee at the University of Calgary.
Anna’s interests include photography, sewing, painting, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and spending time with her Pitbull Terrier, Boston.
